Specialist, Grounds I

Job Summary:

Core responsibilities of this position include: Participating in the care and maintenance of the College grounds maintenance program. Clean and assist in servicing vehicles and equipment as needed; prepares vehicle and tools for work assignments daily. Daily maintenance and cleaning of work areas. Watering and pruning of trees and shrubs. Mowing, edging, and trimming of turf and outlying areas. Irrigation repair as needed. Planting and ongoing care of trees, shrubs and flowers. Small construction projects to upgrade areas around campus. Snow removal as needed.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled. For full consideration apply by February 23rd, 2018.

Starting Date:  As soon after hiring process as practical.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma required 
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience (including training) on irrigations systems and grounds work including snow removal, equipment operation, maintenance and repair
  • The ability to drive in accordance with College policies and be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate Commercial Driver's License(CDL) within 6 months of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of installation and repair of irrigation systems
  • Small equipment operation and repair
  • Capable of operating heavy equipment for snow removal and site-grading work
  • Some knowledge of heavy equipment repair requirements
  • Some supervisor training/experience desired
  • Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to send and receive electronic mail

Beginning Salary:

Position Summary:

To perform supervisory and administrative duties in directing all phases of maintenance, urban forestry, development, planning and operations of county parks to ensure a safe environment and support citizen’s expectations of open space. The position is responsible for the supervision of Parks, Maintenance & Ice Arena Supervisors, temporary and seasonal staff.

Minimum Requirements:



• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Parks Management, Natural Resource Management, or related field.


Five to six years experience in parks management or a related field.


Must be current or obtained within a specified time frame as defined upon employment.

• Valid driver's license.

• Commercial Pesticide Applicators License – State of Wyoming.

• Certified Arborist – International Society of Arboriculture.

• NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector.

Special Considerations:


Essential duties require the following:

Working Environment:

• Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat and noise, working outdoors, vibration, confined work space, chemicals, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards

Physical Activities:

• Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate activity such as sitting, standing, walking, running, kneeling, crouching/stooping/squatting, crawling, twisting upper body, climbing, and lifting an average of 60 lbs.
